The two big bands of the same genre, the Allman Brothers Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival make it somewhat understandable. But this doesn't mean that Marshall Tucker should be underestimated.

The Marshall Tucker Band shares a sound that resembles, in a way, that of CCR. However, there is enough Allman Brothers thrown in where Marshall Tucker becomes a mix of this. It has the twangy guitars of CCR, but has the jam songs of the Allmans. This creates a different, perhaps even more country, sound than the bands mentioned.

Marshall Tucker shows it's country roots through "Hillbilly Band," "See You Later, I'm Gone," and "My Jesus Told Me So." The band mixes acoustics with southern rock and flute in "Can't You See," and "Take the Highway" to remind us that Marshall Tucker can still knock heads with CCR and the Allmans. "Losing You" feels to be a mix of country and southern rock, mostly because of the the singing. This album finally ends with the solo acoustic piece "AB's Song," which can reming a listener of the Allman Brothers song at the end of Eat a Peach "Little Martha."

In all, the Marshall Tucker Band is one the bands that doesn't get as near publicity as it should. Being overshadowed by the two other southern rock giants, they didn't really have a chance at recieving critical success. But, of course, they should not be ignored. These guys are still touring, and are still sounding good.

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?zlzwznmjkjw

Thirdshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03274458459896333035noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8724075761267952748.post-10577025625580316272009-09-20T13:57:00.000-07:002009-09-20T15:12:28.148-07:00Three Latin American Albums!
I've been pretty lazy with updates for quite a while, so what better way to make it up than with three albums from Latin America? Good Deal!
Colombia!- The Golden Years of Discos Fuentes (1960-1976)
Genre: Cumbia
Size: 149.94 MB

Herein lies a compilation of the most popular of Colombian record company: Disco Fuentes. This 20-song set is composed of, if you haven't read the title, music from 1960-1976. Soundway did a terrific job putting this album together to show the better side of Colombia before the drug wars got out of hand.

But I'm not going to focus on that. What I'm going to focus on however, is this album. Every damn song on here is a classic. Every damn song on here makes you want to get and start dancing to the mesmerizing beats. Get this album!

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?mvijmziygtg

Panama! Latin, Funk and Calypso on the Isthmus 1965-1975
Genre: Calypso, Funk
Size: 128.34 MB

Looking at Panama, the first thing that comes to mind is the Panama Canal. Ask about the music scene, and it's generally unheard of outside of Panama. But once again, Soundway to the rescue! Here's another compilation by this record company, once again done perfectly.

Panama! Latin, Funk and Calypso on the Isthmus is another album that makes you want to get up and move your feet, but possibly in a slower fashion than Colombia. This album has it's bangin' funk, and then it slows down to a latin-jazz tempo that can still rock.

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?dvzifjmuoye

Roots of Chicha- Psychedelic Cumbias from Peru
Genre: Psychedelia, Cumbia
Size: 117.72 MB

Here's the last Latin American piece of the day, this time by Barbés Records. This album shares the same feel of the previous two albums, with with a distinct Peruvian sound and,of course, Psychedelia!

This is another great party album, complete with beautiful moog synthesizers and organs. No more happy, optimistic lyrics. No more upbeat sounds. This album right here shows the darker side of Blind Melon, with a bit of humor thrown in just for fun.

Soup opens with "Galaxie," containing various brass instruments, as well as a snare drum playing to a marching beat. This lasts for a good minute, and then busts into their signature laid back, but still rockin' sound.

The albums continues with the punchy "2x4," a song about Shannon Hoon's drug detox. After that it's "Vernie," a slow, mesmerizing sound mixed with distorted guitars and funky bass. It goes to the darker, but in a way humorous, song "Skinned." Concerning infamous Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein, it disturbing lyrics mixed with banjo, and later on kazoo sets an eerie and makes you want to look over your shoulder for Mr. Gein.

On we go to "Toes Across the Floor," which goes from quiet and brooding, to loud and jammin'. "Walk" once again has the funky bass, and great acoustic guitar work. "Dump Truck" starts off as a hard, funky beat but suddenly goes quiet, only to be picked up again.

And now, I don't feel like writing anymore. (:P) It's too bad, too, the rest of the album is probably the best part.So I'll just say this: this is an amazing album by an amazing band, and it's too bad they couldn't make any more.

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?m2v0nzmmtjm

Thirdshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03274458459896333035noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8724075761267952748.post-64834048981221676452009-08-19T07:27:00.001-07:002009-08-19T07:37:39.878-07:00Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington - Complete Sessions
Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington - The Complete Sessions
Genre: Jazz
Size: 44.66 MB

Not much can be said about Louis and Duke which hasn't already been said. The two were amazing artists, some of the most creative musicians then and even now. It was a blessing, then, that these two decided to meet on this great collection and record a beautiful album together. Although not as great as the multiple times Louis and Ella Fitzgerald shared the spotlight, this album has a special place in my collection as being a perfect example of when two jazz greats come together and make something beautiful.

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?oxupsm2vmtq

Thirdshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03274458459896333035noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8724075761267952748.post-8953028735693010042009-07-16T17:03:00.000-07:002009-07-16T17:18:12.809-07:00The Temptations - Psychedelic Shack

The Temptations - Psychedelic Shack
Genre: Soul, R&B, Psychedelic
Size: 68.13 MB

This is the album that changed The Temptations forever. Gone are songs like "My Girl" and "Since I Lost My Baby." Now there is a more relaxed, dark mood formed by these songs. There is still a feeling of hopelessness in some of the songs, but it's not caused by a woman. It's caused by themselves, through what they did. Coming into the psychedelic culture created the eerie "Take A Stroll Through Your Mind" with it's echoing repetition of lyrics. "It's Summer" still has the feel of early Temptations, but at the same time it's different. Whatever it is, this is definitely not an album to miss.

Tracklist:
1. This album is the latter. I had never seen this collection before in the local stores, and I must say that I feel terrible for overlooking it. A great collection of Mississippi talent is on this album, from the better known Willie Brown, Eddie "Son" House and Muddy Waters, to lesser known artists like Frank Evans and Willie Ford. Following the breakthrough success of Things Fall Apart, its release was highly anticipated and highly delayed, as recording took two years. The album includes guest appearances from artists including Nelly Furtado, Cody ChesnuTT, Musiq, Talib Kweli, and Jill Scott. The album was named for the discredited pseudoscience of phrenology, the study of head shapes to determine intelligence and character. Phrenology was sometimes used to justify racism in the past. The album cover artwork was created by artist/printmaker Tom Huck, who is known for his large scale satirical woodcuts.

While it did not parallel the commercial success of the band's previous album, Phrenology sold steadily and was eventually certified gold, signifying sales of at least 500,000 units. The album earned universal acclaim from music critics, based on an aggregate score of 87/100 from Metacritic."

Tracklist:

1. Containing (on this album at least) happy lyrics coupled with psychedelic guitar playing sprinkled with Mississippi hard southern rock to create an album that, although optimistic, contains the punch to bring their point across. Although only remembered for the song "No Rain," Blind Melon has such a great catalogue that "No Rain" is felt to be at the bottom of the list according to other "Melonheads." Things Fall Apart is considered to be the group's breakthrough album, and includes the song "You Got Me" which won the group a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The album was also nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album (which was won by Eminem for The Slim Shady LP). Rolling Stone calls it a "top-flight record", and Allmusic calls it "one of the cornerstone albums of alternative rap." The album's opening track, "Act Won", contains an excerpt from the Spike Lee film, Mo' Better Blues. The excerpt is from a scene where Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes are discussing the current state of African American music (or culture in general) after a gig.The album takes its title from Chinua Achebe's novel of the same name.

Tracklist:

1. An instrumental version of "Italian Leather Sofa" was later used as the theme song for the TV show Mission Hill. The album received a Parental Advisory sticker for profanity in "I Will Survive" (a single instance of 'fucking', which was not in the original version by Gloria Gaynor) and extensive use of 'fuck' in the chorus of 'Nugget'.

Tracklist:
1. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe James Gang fans, and Rock fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of Rides Again their artistic excellence is on full display as they have once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be their best work to date.
It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it's own.

One of the nicer things about a CD like this is with this level of talent even if Rock isn’t your favorite style you still can’t help but appreciate the greatness of the musicians.

Overall Rides Again is outstanding from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Rock fan. Really sensational from beginning to end.

While the entire album is outstanding some of my favorites are track 5 - Tend My Garden, track 7 - There I Go Again, and track 9 - Ashes The Rain And I

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On Repeat"] is track 1 - Funk #49. Outstanding!"

Tracklist:
1. Funk #49
2. Asshton Park
3. Woman
4. The Bomber
5. Tend My Garden
6. Garden Gate
7. There I Go Again
8. Thanks
9. The album marks a departure from the folk rock sound of Harmonium towards a unique progressive rock sound. Serge Fiori, Michel Normandeau and Louis Valois are joined this time by Pierre Daigneault and Serge Locat. Marie Bernard also provides her expertise for the Ondes Martenot, while Judi Richards sings in "Histoires sans paroles". The album's theme revolves around the four seasons, with a track for each, and a new fifth season in "Histoires Sans Paroles", a 17-minute song. "Dixie" is also a notable track because of Locat's unforgettable piano solo. Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison, while a transitional album, became an influential album in Quebec's music history. Some lyrics on this album, like on Depuis l'Automne can show the separatist ideology shared by the band at that time.

Tracklist:
1. Vert (Green)
2. It was released in September of 1978 on Warner Bros. Records . One Nation Under a Groove was Funkadelic's most commercially successful album, and one of its most critically lauded; it is widely considered one of the best funk albums of all time, and one of the most influential albums of the late 1970s. It was the first album to include keyboardist and frequent songwriter Walter "Junie" Morrison. The album also marks the pinnacle of Michael Hampton's development as a guitarist as he matured from a seventeen-year old prodigy to a disciplined master of the instrument. One Nation Under a Groove is a very loose concept album (as are most of Funkadelic's), essentially declaring the power of Funk (see P Funk mythology) to do two interconnected things: become an open-minded, happy and goal oriented person, and dance well. This is the power of Funk stated in less clear terms on previous albums (Free Your Mind... And Your Ass Will Follow). The last three tracks of CD reissues were originally distributed as "bonus-EP". Some latter vinyl editions omit these tracks. In 2003, the album was ranked number 177 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It appeared on Vibe's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century list. In 2006, the album gained renewed exposure when the title track was featured in the internet phenomenon video The Spirit of Truth.

Tracklist:
1. One Nation Under A Groove
2. This group, without Getz, went on to be the famous Return to Forever, and many of the pieces including "La Fiesta" remained in their repertoire. In this period Getz experimented with an Echoplex on his saxophone, for which critics vilified him. He eventually discarded fusion and "electric jazz", returning to acoustic jazz, while at the same time gradually de-emphasizing the Bossa Nova, opting for more esoteric and less-mainstream jazz. He had a cameo in the movie The Exterminator (1980). Teaming with guitarist Charlie Byrd, who had just returned from a U.S. State Department tour of Brazil, Getz recorded Jazz Samba in 1962 and it became a hit. The title track was an adaptation of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "One Note Samba (Samba de Uma Nota Só)". Getz won the Grammy for Best Jazz Performance of 1963 for "Desafinado", off of the same album. As a follow-up, Getz recorded Jazz Samba Encore! with one of the originators of bossa nova, Brazilian guitarist Luiz Bonfa.
He then recorded the album Getz/Gilberto with Tom Jobim, João Gilberto and his wife, Astrud Gilberto. Their "The Girl from Ipanema" won a Grammy Award. The piece became one of the most well-known latin jazz cuts of all time. Getz/Gilberto won two Grammys (Best Album and Best Single), besting The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night, a victory for Bossa Nova and Brazilian jazz. A live album, Getz/Gilberto #2, followed, as did Getz Au Go Go, a recording made live at the Cafe Au Go Go. Unfortunately, Getz' affair with Astrud Gilberto brought an end to his musical partnership with her and her husband and he began to move away from bossa-nova and back to cool jazz. Even while still working with the Gilbertos, he recorded Nobody Else But Me an album of straightforward jazz with a new quartet including vibraphonist Gary Burton, but Verve Records, wishing to continue building the Getz brand with bossa-nova, refused to release it. It eventually came out 30 years later, after Getz had died."

Tracklist:
1.
