"Things Fall Apart is a hip hop album by the Philadelphia based group The Roots, released on February 23, 1999, by Geffen Records. Things Fall Apart is considered to be the group's breakthrough album, and includes the song "You Got Me" which won the group a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The album was also nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album (which was won by Eminem for The Slim Shady LP). Rolling Stone calls it a "top-flight record", and Allmusic calls it "one of the cornerstone albums of alternative rap." The album's opening track, "Act Won", contains an excerpt from the Spike Lee film, Mo' Better Blues. The excerpt is from a scene where Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes are discussing the current state of African American music (or culture in general) after a gig.The album takes its title from Chinua Achebe's novel of the same name.

"Fashion Nugget is the second album by Cake, an alternative rock band from Sacramento, California. It was released in 1996 , and contains fourteen songs. "The Distance" became one of the band's biggest hits, and managed to help the album go platinum. An instrumental version of "Italian Leather Sofa" was later used as the theme song for the TV show Mission Hill. The album received a Parental Advisory sticker for profanity in "I Will Survive" (a single instance of 'fucking', which was not in the original version by Gloria Gaynor) and extensive use of 'fuck' in the chorus of 'Nugget'.

It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it's own.

One of the nicer things about a CD like this is with this level of talent even if Rock isn’t your favorite style you still can’t help but appreciate the greatness of the musicians.

Overall Rides Again is outstanding from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Rock fan. Really sensational from beginning to end.

While the entire album is outstanding some of my favorites are track 5 - Tend My Garden, track 7 - There I Go Again, and track 9 - Ashes The Rain And I

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On Repeat"] is track 1 - Funk #49. Outstanding!"

"Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison (If We Needed a Fifth Season), also known as Les Cinq Saisons (The Five Seasons), is the second album from Quebec band Harmonium, released in 1975. The album marks a departure from the folk rock sound of Harmonium towards a unique progressive rock sound. Serge Fiori, Michel Normandeau and Louis Valois are joined this time by Pierre Daigneault and Serge Locat. Marie Bernard also provides her expertise for the Ondes Martenot, while Judi Richards sings in "Histoires sans paroles". The album's theme revolves around the four seasons, with a track for each, and a new fifth season in "Histoires Sans Paroles", a 17-minute song. "Dixie" is also a notable track because of Locat's unforgettable piano solo. Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison, while a transitional album, became an influential album in Quebec's music history. Some lyrics on this album, like on Depuis l'Automne can show the separatist ideology shared by the band at that time.

One Nation Under a Groove

is the tenth album by American funk/soul/rock band Funkadelic. It was released in September of 1978 on Warner Bros. Records . One Nation Under a Groove was Funkadelic's most commercially successful album, and one of its most critically lauded; it is widely considered one of the best funk albums of all time, and one of the most influential albums of the late 1970s. It was the first album to include keyboardist and frequent songwriter Walter "Junie" Morrison. The album also marks the pinnacle of Michael Hampton's development as a guitarist as he matured from a seventeen-year old prodigy to a disciplined master of the instrument. One Nation Under a Groove is a very loose concept album (as are most of Funkadelic's), essentially declaring the power of Funk (see P Funk mythology) to do two interconnected things: become an open-minded, happy and goal oriented person, and dance well. This is the power of Funk stated in less clear terms on previous albums (Free Your Mind... And Your Ass Will Follow). The last three tracks of CD reissues were originally distributed as "bonus-EP". Some latter vinyl editions omit these tracks. In 2003, the album was ranked number 177 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It appeared on Vibe's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century list. In 2006, the album gained renewed exposure when the title track was featured in the internet phenomenon video The Spirit of Truth.
